Carousels that get saved and sell

A carousel is a story people swipe and read to the end. Saves and sends are what push it to people who do not follow you yet. Here is the posting routine that gets it there, for stores and for creators.

Add music

Instagram's own creator account says a carousel with music can show in the Reels tab. On TikTok, photo mode posts carry a sound like videos.

3 to 5 hashtags

Both platforms now read the caption, on-screen text and audio. A few precise tags beat 20 to 30 generic ones.

20 product tags

Meta allows up to 20 shopping tags on one Instagram carousel and 5 on a single photo (Meta Business Help).

Build the story, slide by slide

One idea per carousel. Slide 1 stops the scroll, slides 2 to 6 deliver, the last slide asks for a save or a send.

  1. Slide 1, the hook: a bold claim, a problem or an open question that the carousel answers on slide 5 or 6. Large text, few words, the product in frame.
  2. Slides 2 to 6, the payoff: one point per slide, short lines in big type. Every slide shows the product so the story sells while it teaches.
  3. The reveal: the answer to the opening question, the result, or the product doing the thing.
  4. The last slide: a reason to save it ("save this before you buy") or to send it to a friend, plus your brand name. 7 to 10 slides is the common range.
  5. One aspect ratio per post: 4:5 (1080x1350) on Instagram, 9:16 (1080x1920) on TikTok. Mixing ratios in one Instagram carousel crops slides.

Post it the right way

  1. Attach a trending sound before you publish. On Instagram this is what lets a carousel appear in the Reels tab; on TikTok photo mode it works like a video's sound. Pick a sound that is rising now, keep it quiet under the story.
  2. Caption: keyword first. Put the product type and the problem in the first 50 characters ("gentle exfoliating mitt for dry skin"), the same words that appear on slide 1. TikTok and Instagram search read captions and on-screen text.
  3. 3 to 5 precise hashtags at the end: the product type, the niche, the problem. No tag stuffing.
  4. Tag the product natively where you can: Instagram Shop tags (up to 20 per carousel) or a TikTok Shop product link. You can add a TikTok Shop tag after posting if the post takes off. If you cannot tag, point to the link in bio in the last line.
  5. First hour: reply to every comment. The first 30 to 60 minutes are when the platform decides whether to show the post to more people.

Which CartViral format for which goal

Do
  • Saves: cheat sheet, how to use, reasons and mistakes, gift guide
  • Sends and shares: myth vs fact, us vs the usual way
  • Comments: this or that, unpopular opinion, customer story
  • Watch to the end: behind the scenes, brand origin story, before and after
Avoid
  • Posting the same carousel to both platforms with the wrong ratio
  • Opening the caption with a greeting instead of the keyword
  • Re-uploading someone else's carousel or a watermarked export
  • Fake urgency ("only 3 left") on a post: both platforms treat it as deceptive

How to measure

Saves and sends on Instagram, swipe-through on TikTok, then clicks to your link. There is no official "good" number: compare each carousel with your own account's average over the last few weeks, keep the formats that beat it and post more of them.

Questions

Do carousels need music?

Yes. Instagram's creator account says carousels with music can show in the Reels tab, which is where non-followers see them. On TikTok, photo mode posts carry a sound like any video.

How many slides?

7 to 10 is the common range. Fewer than 5 rarely tells a story; more than 10 loses people before the payoff.

Can creators post carousels for Earn offers?

Yes. Make the carousel in CartViral from the offer's product, disclose it (#ad at the start of the caption and the platform's paid partnership or branded content toggle) and put your offer link in bio or tag the product.

How often should I post?

Consistency beats bursts: one carousel a day is a strong rhythm for a store; creators mix carousels with clips every day.
